1956 revolution and war of independence (historical exhibition)
The Hungarian Revolution and War of Independence of 1956 was a revolution against communist terror and, at the same time, a national war of independence against the country's Soviet occupation. The two week period of October–November 1956 is the best-known chapter of 20th-century Hungarian history internationally and also significant in the context of world history during the Cold War. In addition to having been a serious global event, for decades the revolution served as a symbol of the desire for freedom in Europe, a continent divided by the Iron Curtain.
